Spring-Time-Ready Looks + JORD Giveaway

Is anyone else, but me, over winter yet? I'm trying to envision the leaves turning green again, the flowers blooming & the warmth of the sun. I. CAN'T. WAIT!

With that said, I want to share with you all how I'm transitioning my wardrobe from winter to spring! I love being cozy and bundled up, but sometimes too much layers kill my vibe - I feel like a roly-poly sometimes with my thick, puffy coat on - ya feel me? So, I wanted to add more color to my wardrobe again by breaking out my lighter-weight scarves, jeans (and a colored one too), and booties! AND, what I consider would end up being my favorite spring time accessory, my new JORD Watch!

Y'ALL - I have never had a unique watch like this one. This particular one is made from Zebrawood (read more about it here), which gives it a very one-of-a-kind look and it complements the emerald-green face extremely well (more about the watch here).

As most of you know, I am a medical student which means that I'm always wearing a watch (okay like 90% of the time). So I'm really excited to be able to add a timeless piece to my watch collection!

Okay - back to these spring-time-ready looks. I love how the light-weight scarves can still add some "warmth-factor" since the temperatures are not as high as I'm hoping they'd be right now. Meanwhile, the colors add that pop of spring-time touch! As for tops, I tend to go with ones that are three-fourths sleeves or long-sleeve tops that I can also fold up. That way, I can have the option of rolling my sleeves up if it gets warmer or keep them down if it's chilly. Also, I love wearing colored jeans as another way of adding a pop of color for this transition time. Another fun way to transition the blush pink jeans I'm wearing is to pair it with a light gray sweater and a bootie, for another transition-to-spring look!
(Even just breaking out my trusty boyfriend jean is a great way to change it up & welcome the spring time)
Lastly, booties are ESSENTIAL for transitioning from winter to spring. Sometimes it's not quite cold enough to wear those knee-high leather boots, so booties are the perfect alternative & will still keep your toesies warm ;)

Now, for the exciting part - I've partnered with JORD to do a G I V E A W A Y. Yes you read that right! One lucky winner will win a $100 Gift Card to www.woodwatches.com! FIGS Scrubs - A Review

OH HAPPY DAY! Cus I finally get to review my FIGS Scrubs! (Insert Happy Dance HERE). If you guys don't know exactly what FIGS is, they are a brand out of sunny LA. It was started by two friends (one with a background in fasion, and the other with a background in business). One of the founders, Heather (worked in fashion) met up with her friend & basically reworked her scrubs and the rest is history. Read more about their story here. If ya'll have read my previous reviews before about scrubs, I always talk about how scrubs are a BIG part of my wardrobe as a medical student. If I'm going to wear scrubs, I want them to be comfortable and stylish too! It's only been recently that I've found my favorite brands - ones that actually flatter my figure, and also ones that are not too long or too short on the inseam (cus #shortpeopleprobs).

To add to my collection of favorite scrub brands: enter FIGS. I was sent a pair of their scrubs - and since then it was love-at-first-wear. Ya'll seriously - these are the MOST comfortable scrubs! (I'm wearing them now as I write, haha). I picked out the Catarina Top and the Kade Pant

The first thing I noticed when I put them on was that the fabric was extremely SOFT. Second, was that it fit like a glove. I was worried that it would be too big on me (a problem I usually have), but NOPE. The fit was perfect & the fabric just fell into all the right places. Nothing was sticking out, or too snug - just right. The third thing I really loved about these, especially the pants, was the LENGTH. I'm 5'2" and the inseam fit me perfectly (I got XS's in both the top and bottom, BTW). I thought I would have to hem them (which I actually never do anyways, oops), but did not have to! Thank goodness for saving me that trip that I may or may not have taken, FIGS!

If ya'll are looking for more of a petite fit, check out the different lines that FIGS have. Also check them out if you're looking for scrubs that are not your typical scrubs - basically, an upgrade! I really think that these will be one of the most comfortable scrubs you will ever try.

The final thing I wanted to mention is FIGS' Threads For Threads program. For every pair of scrubs they sell, they donate a pair to a health care provider in need! I L O V E brands that giveback. So what better way to put your pretty pennies into a good cause!

What are your favorite scrub brands?

Slow-Down Sundays: Night-Time Skin Care Routine

Ahhh, Sundays. The day when we can all slow down before Monday comes and, well, slaps us in the face. So today, I'd like to share with you all my new goodies that will be a part of my night-time skin care routine! (And most of them will also be a part of my day-time routine too). All of these were purchased from The Detox Market

Previously, I was using Ursa Major's Fantastic Face Wash, and while I loved it I wanted to be able to purchase all my skincare and make-up needs from one place. So I decided to try out Indie Lee's Brightening Face Wash. I can't give a review just yet (should I do one in the near future?), but I know that I've been loving the Squalene Facial Oil, also by Indie Lee.

Next up, I purchased the Odacite Black Cumin Cajeput + Peach Cypress Duo as a booster for the Indie Lee Squalene Facial Oil. I've used these two products from Odacite before & I love it! It helps keeps breakouts away. You can either add 1-2 drops to your favorite moisturizer OR use 3-4 drops as an intensive treatment.

The last product is NOT a part of my night-time skin care routine, but it is a part of my make-up routine haha! It is my trusty Alima Pure Satin Matte Foundation. I'll do a separate post on my current make-up routine later on!

Lastly, here is what I do step-by-step:

  • Double-cleansing: I use this method to cleanse my face and to make sure that all traces of make up are gone. The first time around serves to take off make up, and the second time serves to get a deeper cleanse. That is why it's really important to me to find and use a face wash that won't dry me out.
  • Treatment: after the double-cleanse method, I use which ever treatment product I feel like my skin is needing. I use Kypris Moonlight Catalyst 2-3 times/week (this is used night time only). And on other nights, I use Kypris Clearing Serum (which I ran out of - So now I will be switching to the Odacite Products). I think it will make the process easier too because I will be able to just mix it in with the third step, which is moisturizer.
  • Moisturizer: I actually use an oil to moisturize. This may or may not surprise you because a lot of people think that using an oil product for an already oily or semi-oily skin will make it worse. That is actually NOT the case! I consider my skin as combination-oily (especially during the summer months), and I have found my skin to become more #balanced after switching to an oil as moisturizer. What you do have to be careful with is what TYPE of oil you use. If you have a skin type like mine, use lighter oils. This Indie Lee Squalene Oil is the perfect weight oil for my skin so I am lovin' it!
  • Spot Treatment: If I have a TERRIBLE pimple (and trust me I get them), I spot-treat with Tea Tree Oil. I just use a q-tip and dab it on those spots.

There you have it! I love having a night-time skin care routine because it helps me slow down and allow myself a form of self-care.

What is your night-time skin care routine? I'd love to know!

Smitten Scrubs + Giving Back

Happy Friday ya'll! You may have seen one of my stories on the good 'ol Instagram where I mentioned I was working on a post for today. Without further ado - here it is! Scrub Shopper reached out to me to promote a scrub brand that is relaunching one of their lines. It is the Bliss collection from Smitten Scrubs! As you know, I'm in medical school - so scrubs are a wardrobe staple. So I'm extremely grateful to be able to share this brand with ya'll!

My first impression of these scrubs was that the material reminded me of a Nike or Adidas track suit! The fabric is a ponte knit which makes it heavier - but not in a bad way! It's great for the colder weather so that you don't necessarily have to wear leggings under scrubs (which I do a lot in the winter).

As far as the fit goes, I think that the top fit me great (XS), but may have been a little long on me (I'm 5'2") - So I would probably suggest a Petite size (#shortpeopleprobs). The bottoms were the PERFECT length (Small petite), but there is something I noticed. It was that the hip area has a slight - and I mean sliiiiiight - curvier fit. Now, my body type is more straight so personally those are not necessary for me. In fact, the curves are not as flattering for me. BUT, if you're on the curvier side - these bottoms would be perfect! It's not super noticeable, especially if the top is not tucked in. And again, it's very slight and it really depends on your body type. Of course, they've got lots of stretch all around which is great!

Something  else that I absolutely love are the POCKETS. If scrubs are also a part of your wardrobe staples, then you would love #allthepockets. There are a total of 4 pockets on the top and 3 on the bottom (one of which is a bigger side pocket & there's velcro to secure items).

Overall, I was extremely pleased by these scrubs & will be my go-to for the colder, winter months!

Another exciting news I wanted to mention is called the "Give Back" Campaign by Scrub Shopper. What it is, is that during the month of January and February, Scrub Shopper will be Giving Back to some organizations when you make a purchase through their website. The organizations included are: Susan G. Komen, Doctors Without Borders, St. Jude's, The Abandoned Pet Project, and the Greta James Scholarship Foundation. When making a purchase, you will have the option to select ONE of the above-mentioned organizations and Scrub Shopper with donate $1 PER ORDER to the organization that you chose!

I know that Christmas and the Holidays have passed, but what a great way to continue in the giving spirit throughout 2017! In addition, Scrub Shopper has offered a DISCOUNT CODE to take $15 OFF any order over $80 (and it can be purchase of ANY brand).
DISCOUNT CODE: "dorothyfaye15" (can be used at check out).

Thank ya'll for reading! I hope to continue to be able to help in anyway I can whether it's by giving product reviews, sharing perspective on medical school and life during medical school. SO - let me know what other types of posts you would like to read about!

And don't forget, no matter what season - let's give back.

Girlfriend Collective - A Review

Everyone needs that one tried, and true pair of black leggings amirite? I think I've found mine. Last year around November, I ordered the Girlfriend Collective legging because I kept seeing on Facebook how it was only $19 which was the price of shipping. I mean come on, who can resist that? After browsing through the website, and reading about how one of their designers spent her past time at Lululemon (hello? another favorite of mine!) - then I knew I had to check it out.

If you ordered these too, you know that the package took a while to come in. I believe I ordered them late summer and they came in early November. This I'm guessing is because they're made and shipped from overseas, and maybe due to demand? Not sure.

My first impression, honestly, was: "oh no I don't like these". I didn't like them at first because as I was putting them on, the waistband kind of curves in (if you know what I mean) and was a little tight around my waist. I didn't like that feeling because I don't like feeling constricted when I'm supposed to be in my comfy yoga pants. Yet as I wore them more, and maybe after a couple washes, I felt that they started to fit much better, conforming to my body.

Is this the legging that gets better with time?!

So far, I have not noticed any pilling or threads coming loose. Also, the fabric seems to be holding itself up well! I love wearing mine to workout (obviously), and to class and while I'm studying - really, anywhere! I've dressed it up (not TOO dressed up, because you can definitely tell they're workout pants due to the stitching), and I've dressed it down. These leggings also has some compression - not too much, not too little. Especially over time, I feel that the compression is perfect (remember, they take some time to conform to your body).

Another thing I like about this brand is that they are making these leggings with sustainable means. Read more about their brand and how each pair of leggings are made from 25 recycled water bottles here.

Hopefully the rest of their line (whenever it comes out), will live up to the expectations! I'm excited to see how this brand grows & what kind of products they come out with (maybe I'll have more review for y'all, who knows?)

Let me know if you've ordered/tried the Girlfriend Collective leggings below!
